The Sexual Reason for Your Man to Lose Weight

It is a well known fact that obesity may significantly lower men’s level of testosterone and turn the manly hormone into estrogen. This is the very reason why men develop love handles and man boobs – the typical spots of female’s fat storage. Besides attacking his body on the outside, being overweight eats him up on the inside too – his sexual drive will be messed up from all these hormonal changes. To top all the confidence-breaker conditions, he will also be very prone to erectile dysfunctions.

However, weight woes is not the end of your sexual life as you know it. Losing some extra pounds could avoid testosterone production decline by almost 50%, according to a recent study. In the study published in The Endocrine Society’s 94th annual meeting, Boston, 900 overweight and pre-diabetic men aged 54 on average were put on a test. They were put into three groups; each group was given either one of 150 minutes of exercise a week plus a low-calorie, low-fat diet, the diabetes drug metformin, or a placebo pill.

After a year of observation, it is shown how those underwent balanced diet and regular exercise have far better testosterone production – the previous decline could be decreased up to 46%. On the other hand, those under diabetic medicine or placebo pills have just as bad a testosterone production as compared to before the observation. Men whose lifestyles are modified to be healthier lose an average of 8kg a year, with a better testosterone production and lower risks of diabetes.

If better sexual life is not enough a motivation for your man to shed some pounds, then do it for the sake of muscles. A study published in Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism shows that older men with better testosterone production have lower risks of losing muscle mass and body strength.

Now the big question is, how to measure if he is overweight? Men can be a little touchy about weight, too. So it’s better to handle the matter with care. Refer to the tables below to find out if his weight is still ideal, on the verge of overweight, or overweight:

For a quick test, accurately measure your waist using a tape measure placed just above the top of your hip bones. If your waist is 40 inches or more, you are at high risk for declining testosterone, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and weak bones, known as osteoporosis (s0urce: The Testosterone Factor, Dr. Safiq Qaadri).
